I just had my cleaner shrimp die...I have a 30 gallon tank...would it be ok to put a coral banded shrimp in there? I cant decide if i should get another cleaner or just a coral banded...

Any Idea why the cleaner died?
Are all your water parameters in check?
I have both a coral banded and a cleaner...oh and two peppermints in a 55.

I would personally get the Coral banded because they look cooler and they both clean your fish so it is up to you.

I would avoid the coral banded in a 30 gallon. They tend to get big and harass fish. Some will pick at anemones and lps corals, too. If you really want one, look for a yellow CBS, they tend to stay smaller and are a bit more reclusive.

I have to agree. My vote is for replacing the cleaner shrimp. In a small thank there is so little room for error with an aggressive coral-banded. I have never heard of the yellow banded.

Coral bandeds can kill small fish. They're really not cleaners. They're predators. If your fish are large enough, cool. But in a typical tank, they're too much shrimp. Peppermints are great---I have four, who have overcome their shyness and are always out], and they eat aiptasia. The skunk cleaner is innocuous [often gets eaten by ungrateful predatory fish in a small tank].

i have a good sized coral banded in a 30g for over a year now, never really bothered or hurt any of my fish, most are bigger but i have a sixline that's pretty small. the worst he's done is chase them off with his claws if they get too close. i've never seen him clean any of my fish but he does pick off the rocks and stuff. i love having him in my tank
