price to make a sump?

Does anyone know a price range to make a sump? The tank it would be for is a 68g. It will be FOWLR and later some coral like shrooms and softies. This weekend im getting a 68g w/ stand and canopy. It comes w/ some basic lights and a return pump and im guessing that a sump is the best way to go for this tank. With a sump it is just filled with water and the protein skimmer goes in it and a return pump takes the water back to the main tank right? (this is my guess at what a sump is/does so if this is incorrect please tell me) im just trying to get an idea of how much money im going to need. Also if anyone can recommend a good skimmer for or any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Why buy, when you can make? A 20 long is two 10 gallon tanks end to end and makes a great sump that'll hold an extra 10 gallons with reserve capacity (for power outages). You could even go to your local hardware store and get some glass cut to put in for baffles and compartments. That'll cost you less than $50.

I would also recommend just using an inexpensive glass tank for a sump. Custom made sumps can be pricey.
