You dont need to spend that kinda money for a 75G.

Get a DAS EX1. Its recirc but can go insump, Thats were mine is. Runs around $285. Plug and play skimmer

Look into the octo skimmers as well.

Whats your budget? And how much room do you have, do you want plug and play or do you want to save alot and mod it for a few bux? Your cheapest bet is the octo 150, around 150bux, you can mod it for 10bux then it'll be plug and play. The das ex1 is going to be a plug and play skimmer for you but for around 285. imo over 300 for a 75g tank is silly to spend.

Thanks. My budget is under $300. How does the Tunze 9010 compare to DAS EX1, Euro-Reef RS100 and Octo 150?

I would rank them like this......stock plug and play
1) Das EX1-500lph air, a recirc and 285bux
2) ER RS100-420lph air....but price is kinda steep
3)Octo 150 nice performers and at only around 150bux
4) Tunze 9010, nice and small but 325bux

Personally i'd check out the new octo extreme line from marinesolutions. The 160 would work for you well i'm sure and you could upgrade as well. Looks like the bm160 and its only 275bux.

As a Euroreef owner I can say you definitely need the gatevalve mod. I would not buy the skimmer without it.

The DAS ex-1 skimmer is ok but with the 5" diameteter on the body I feel you are cutting yourself short. Remember to add the water volume of the sump to the total water volume. If you go with the das skimmer I would step up to the ex-2.

As for the Tunze search out kodyboy here on RC he is a 9010 owner and claims it is the best skimmer he has owned. He will be more then willing to give you a wealth of information on it. Members of my reef club own other Tunze skimmers and they are very happy with them.

I have no experience with Octopus so I don't have an opinion but my personal feelings are anyhing that needs to be modified immediately out of the box is probably not worth buying.

Burmuda may be a viable choice one of our club members has one on his 400+ gallon system. It is a beckett style skimmer which I have come to find is the most efficent skimmer for producing skimmate. Not as energy efficent as the skimmer you are looking at.

Hmm, for one, kody would say his h&s is much better than his tunze. For two, the das may be rather small in diameter but it pulls more air than the ER, so size in this case does not matter. The octo's don't have to be modded, but if you want to mod them they will work very very well. I would agree with you that the bermuda's are a good skimmer as well. The bermuda 3c would be a good choice as well.
