What is the best way to test water?

Hi,
I am pretty new to reefs. I have a 125 gallon that is doing great, but i want to make sure by testing. What is best to test my water- test kits or electronic devices?

All suggestions are appreciated!

for most things, you'll need test kits. electronic devices only really test stuff like pH, temperature, ORP, etc. For things like nitrate, phosphate, calcium, and so on, you're stuck with test kits unless you've got access to a lab with a gas chromatograph

IMO as nitrates rise the water will taste more salty, with high PH it taste kind of fishy, and if you believe I taste my water your crazy. LOL just kidding. Test kits are the way to go.
