El Nino hit my tank

I have been using a coralife digital thermometer in my new tank that I set up a couple of months ago. This past week I discovered that is was 4 degrees off so my temperature in my tank has been 83-85 degrees for the past 2 months.

What thermometer are you using and has anyone else had these issues?

I use the same crappy ones. I use them just as a visual check. I have a floating glass thermometer that I use occasionally to check accuracy of the digi. Nothing beats glass.

I do not leave it in though, they can break easy. What do you expect for $2?

I had a glass thermometer that broke in my old tank. Had those lead balls all over my sand bed. Then I switched to digital. The digital in my 29 is accurate cuz I double checked it with 2 different glass thermometers.

Yep. I've been there.... Thats why I'll just put it in the sump for a minute or so...

Now if it stays accurate is another thing. Anything digital is not likely to be "long term" over something mechanical.

If the 29 is stable, yoink the digi from there and put it on the 120!

It has been said before(recently) and I'll say it again. "Great minds think alike!"

I use a pinpoint digital thermometer and the controller on each of my chillers. 3 points of reference.

yeah, juggy, you might want to have a couple thermometers...a controller would be nice also....you may need a chiller for the summer....not sure if fans and opening the canopy will be much help....

Hello
Stop by your local photo/camera store a pick up a darkroom thermometer, accurate to +/- .5 F for color lab work. Use it for reference only as they are filled with Mercury!

I also use the coralife digi term but just for visual check. I have a glass floating in my overflow for accuracy.
