Computer Talk - ECS LGA 775 Question
Can someone give me some guidance on this motherboard? I know of someone who is selling it because they didn't use it for $30 is it worth my time and money to buy the the other parts to make it work? What type of CPU can this hold (max).

They run about $80 brand new and really aren't on the high end of the scale as far as motherboards go. If you really want a decent one, I might have one lying around the house you can have.
The big thing with any computer parts is that you honestly get what you pay for and should stick with the name brands. This is a socket 775 MOBO and can support Quad-core, Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Duo which are all Intel products. The biggest problem with this particular MOBO is that if you have any hopes of ever overclocking your processor, it won't happen.

i've never owned an ECS MB, but new they are around 80 bucks. i'd be worried it wouldn't work if it's only 30 bucks. you can buy used MB's from online vendors pretty cheap-and they can (usually) be returned if they're DOA. i'd make sure it boots up before i bought it.
i have an asus board-but it's also a 775 socket like this ECS one. the chip i'm using is an E6600. they are pretty cheap now, and that chip has pretty good overclocking potential. chips for that socket can get pretty expensive though. it all depends on what you need. right now there are about 50 different chips for that socket. |
