Great topic for a thread. My sarco is one of the favorites in the tank. This is mine, had it around 2.5 years. It's in a 24" wide tank, so it's right around 17" when fully expanded.

I can't see the last picture of your baby green but I can see it in the first. Nice.

Nvm, I can see the picture now. Looks great. I also like your crocea clam and RBTA.

Other than sarcophyton, I couldnt tell you. As you can see there many color/growth variations. Even color/growth can change with different lighting and flow.

agreed with grave. age, health, and time of day also change their appearances.

you'd also need to see more of the actual physical structure of this specific specimen (with the polyps retracted) to get a closer/more accurate ID. the long-polyps and photo angle hide too much of the coral.

i can say a couple species it definitely ain't but as to which one it might be, the list would be too long. there's around 35~60 species of sarcophyton, depending on which biologist you prefer.

but besides the ID'ing though, i'd doubt you could accurately/consistently obtain one species over another, other than some obvious ones that differ from one another, e.g. s. elegans (bright yellow) versus a s. trocheliphorum (long-polyped brownish).

I won't be able to get one now, my new tank isn't set up yet. I seriously about died when you said that. Ummmmm If the offer is still available a little later, i should i have my tank set up around Jan/Feb. It might be a little cold then but we'll see.

Thanx,
-Chris-

Would a leather be able to be in an SPS dominated tank? I've heard about them fighting with chemicals.

There will be some chemical competition. I had stonies in a softy dominated tank with no obvious problems. Activated carbon use should quiet the battle.

Here's one of mine. It doesn't really extend it's polyps, but it has grown in height since I acquired it.

Here's a pic of my old Toadstool. It was getting too big, I donated it to a Zooqi at REEFNEST for his schools. It was about 14 inches across before I got rid of it.

that's a gorgeous specimen, jonk! very nice! just curious, do you remember if it was very slimey or dry-ish (leathery) to the touch?

dresch, i think that's a s. glaucum. it's not too unusual for it to stay closed up most of the time ime. not sure if that's a great sign though as i've had off/on luck with it in the past but it looks good to me in that pic!
