jjmcat, those are vermetulid snails doing this to your hammer, just pull him out with some tweezer'z or epoxy him in his chute for good, cover the top hole with some reef/saltwater safe epoxy glue stick. hope this helps.

You might want to try dipping that in some Coral Dip like Kent Marine's Tech D or maybe lugols iodine dip. That might help stop whatever is causing the coral to lose tissue.

In my experience I've never seen the tissue grow back. What I considered to be most important was to stop the degeneration, and allow the remaining coral polyps to keep on building

My hammer was in the process of doing this when I bought it. Luckily it stopped and actually regrew the tissue that had receeded. All I did was dip it twice in Seachem reef dip. I'd like to say I did more to help, but I didn't. Just make sure it has medium flow and good water quality, basic stuff. Also, it might help to feed it, if you haven't been. Hope you figure it out.

My hammer went from a big beautiful coral to just a skeleton. I didn't have the heart to take the skeleton out. Well now it is growing back. Looks like it is on its way to a full recovery. I found the culprit and took it out, appeared to be a flatworm / nudibranch. Don't give up on it yet. This hobby will always amaze you. Good luck!!!!

You had to resort to fragging huh? That sucks. I hope they make it.
