My thought here, and not to say corals won't grow under T5s is that I want to be able to frag from my display which runs 3 250w 10k MHs and put them in this system for grow out with as little stress / color change as possible. Also, most people who have sps dominated tanks are running MH and I bet most are using bulbs in the 10k range. So I figure the frags I grow will already be adjusted to the type of system they will be going to and I am catering to the majority of people.

I just know the type growth I get from my display, so I'm sticking with it.
i see, and it makes sense simply based on thats what the main tank corals are used to, the frags will not have to acclimate to a different type of light, and simply keep growing

i really do like MH, but on my current tank, it wasnt sucha good option.. my next, and larger tank, will be mh and t5ho lit...mostly t5, but mh for shimmer and pinpointing light greedy critters.

Awesome project! I really like the way it's turned out, congrats!

So what silicone did you ultimately end up using on this tank? I used the cheap wal-mart stuff on my diy HOB mini-fuge (AC70 convert) and allowed a week to cure (maybe too soon) but now after a month in use the silicone has turned yellow. I don't want this to happen when I build my new tank (Glass) or when I re-silicone my 55 gallon that I have just finished stripping out. I would like to use a silicone that cures either clear, or aqua-blue. Any suggestions?

I used the GE I 100% Silicone for Doors and Windows found at Lowes. It was what many others here on RC have used with success and recommended. It worked great.

That is awesome, congrats on a successful build! It looks even better now with the frags in.

So a couple of questions to keep the thread moving forward:

A) What frags do you presently have in the tank?
B) Are the params on the frag tank exact with your display as you were aiming for?
C) Are all these frags going into your display eventually?

Keep up the great work!

P.S. - Nebraskareef, love the signature very funny!

Heh, and some folks thought it wouldn't work back there.

Kudos!

I'm happy to see the successful updates as well.

Params are getting there.

Frags going IN my tank??? Are you kidding, 150 of them came FROM my tank, I had to thin it out!! That's the main reason I built this thing.

I've got pretty much frags of all my colonies, do you reallly want me to name them all?

Who questioned if this would work?!?! Where they at?

Thanks to all those who helped out with info!!

Hehe, they're the ones in the back of the line waiting for frags, wishing they'd kept mum.

well reading the first few posts and how you put your tank togather i figured this was going to be a bust.

got to the end of the thread and it looks AMAZING, good job m8 keep it up, but please if you build another tank put the silicon down first then the glass it will bond a lot better, and yes i have build my own tanks ( 60 gal tank i'm using for my sump ) wouldnt want your wife getting upset that your tank broke and make you have to redo the kitchen or somthing

it maybe compensating or it may be the reflection from the bottom. the white is going to reflect back up at the frags and everything above, damn nice if i might say so myself....betting you get some good growth on this tank

It is a little on the rediculous side....the whole room is lit by these things and the reflection off the bottom of the tank. I have recessed and I can see they will no longer be used.

I think by posting that pic there is a tax involved, which can be paid to other reefers and I out there by shipping out some of that rock to us!
