I just got this Acan Lord and it is my first Acan and I've read all of the threads I could find about fragging them but nothing was very informative. Can someone give me some pointers?
please

Everyone too cool to reply? I would love to here how to do this properly? Reefcentral is full of info, but it is a matter if people will share info with others. It seems if you only have a few posts it is just a waste of others time.

find a tool that will cut it(dremel, table saw, etc, etc) and cut it how you want. place in aquarium and feed mysis shrimp atleast weekly. it should heal in a week or so. if it is newly added i would wait atleast 30 days before fragging.

Is there anything you can use that doesn't destroy the surrounding polyps? I would think a dremel or table saw would just decimate it.

Dremels might surprise you. Another method I have heard of is to use tubing cutters. Supposed to give a really clean cut... I have not fragged any as of yet, so I have no experience doing it, just what I've heard. HTH

Use a dremel with a cutoff wheel, don't worry about mangling polyps, there tough.

pg. 10 & 11 he tells what NOT to do, pg 15 he posts about fragging equip, & pg 22 has the step by step w/ pics. I like how he writes about it because he shares the ups & downs, so you'd know what to avoid as you're going. How thick is the base of that colony? I've never fragged one, except in my desperate attempt to save an echinata from brown jelly, but someday I'd like to.

how tall is the skeleton? I read that makes a difference in ease of fragging.

It is a beautiful colony, nice score. How long have you had it? A little off subject, but is that your tricolor nana under your user name?

I would make sure that you have a well setup table or workarea. I havent' read all the post or articles mentioned but I have had success in cutting from the bottom - up, if it is honeycombed enough.

Is it better to cut through the center of the polyps or to try and go inbetween them?

Comments like this will sure make them come faster

There are several post if you do a little searching before belittling everyone.

IME I find the easiest way to do it without a band saw is to make a nice score line with a dremel ( using a diamond blade to cut) then wack it hard on the score line with a hammer and chisel. when using the dremel make sure to not keep it on there for long as the balde gets really hot and could burn the coral flesh. Always give an iodine dip/bath after fragging. HTH

Always better to go around the polyps but they will grow back if you cut right through them! BTW wait at least 1-2 weeks of it being in your system and eating prior to fragging
