I have a 5 gallon bucket of it left and no tank. I think I better keep hold on to it for a while.

I believe Prestone Driveway Heat can be used also. I saw it at Lowes or the Depot. But I still have plenty of my Dow.

Actually I re-read the article and the Prestone Driveway Heat is the same product as Dow but in a different brand. So I have no idea on this now.

I guess the question is, is the elevated level of bromide in the "new" dowflake in issue to be concerned with?
Didn't sound like RHF was all that too concerned about it...
"IMO, that is no concern at all."
"It is OK to use as I stated in the first post. It may or may not be OK to use in routine supplementation, depending on how much is used and how fast bromide is depleted (unknown but certainly varies tank to tank)."

Yes Walmart, a large chunk of any calcium chloride is possibly from DOW, including our uber expensive Kent pellets. If you have concerns, I won't assume any calcium chloride products are safe unless produced prior to the changeover.

Exactly Porky. I think the overall opinion is that if you're not using it heavily, for limited use and boosting salt mixes that it's probably ok. Only over time without water changes would it be an issue. If you read his Boron article, I believe it mentioned some of the tests of extreme excess of Boron, and the minor (if any) impact it had.

FYI, no master or chemist of any sorts, just have read a decent amount of these threads and am attempting to spew the info back out. For the most part, if Randy says it's the case, it's probably good enough for me

Personally I can attest to the opposite, and the negative impact it has on LPS when you get way too low

I have 3 50# bags of it left from a year ago. I bought it to salt my restaurants sidewalks when everyone was out of rock salt. Maybe I should hold onto this stuff. I told the Monster to use it up and get it out of the way.
