I slowly watched two Becker Torts SLOWLY over the summer and when my "troubles" first started a Tubs Horrida I had grew from a nub to a 3" plus multibranch piece fillet in a few short days.

This is a good thread. We can call commiserate together. All reeferes lose corals, but I think for us SPS keepers, the sting is worse. Of all the time, money and sacrifice we invest into getting our slow growing stiff pretty stick to mature, when one actually dies...

Anyway, here's my pride and joy. I grew this Tyree Purple Monster from a quarter inch nub into this:

Losing this coral actually made me take a break from the hobby.

dont have a colony shot of this one.. but here is an up-close of a lime w/ purple polyp nasuta that is now gone

gone too

yellow tort no more (austera)

and then i could go on and on and on with pics of frags i lost.... and they were all lost to a common cause that started in my tank feb 07 and still affects my tank to this day (well... actually, i have been a record 3wks w/o signs of new receded areas)

I lost a large wild colony of A. Secale, tricolor+ with purple and cyan blue glowing polyps. (I'll see if I can dig up a pic) Never seen anything like it since or before. Its' skeleton sits on my balcony as a sad reminder. I always wish that at least a frag could have been saved. Good reason to share frags of beloved corals with reefer friends.

Lost this little pokerstar. Fell into a rainbow micro and they both nuked each other.

Managed to save a single polyp of it to regrow.

Then my chiller failed on me a couple of weeks after and I totally lost it...

Excellent thinking! I've made it a point to give out frags when things are looking/doing great, soon after acquiring the coral even, rather than waiting for when "things aren't looking so good and I don't know why"

When you get something unique, give a frag to a friend shortly after you get it or after it colors up and then if you lose your colony hopefully your friend will be nice enough to give you a frag back.

Wow you guys those could make a guy cry. I've lost quite a few nice corals over the years as well but can't find any decent pictures. Here is a piece I lost about a year ago when I had some big problems with my system. It started as a 3/4" frag I bought through Ulimate frags as a tri-colour. It died about the time it really started to show some potential.

I was very fortunate in that I have spread a few around over the years. I was offered many replacements and new pieces for free. I wasn't able to take even close to everything I was offered because I ran out of room!
One of the reasons reefing is such a great hobby...... the support from other reefers

100% TRUE.
In my mind there's just no other way to go about this.
I'm patiently waitnig for my buddy to get his 350 in order so he can have a frag of each out of my tank.

Boy Great/Horrible thread.

This still sucks

and still bummed about this (even though it was small)

lost this with the AEFW incident (still have NO idea how I ended up with them after not putting anything in the tank for 8 months - 1 year.

I too make it a point to try to give away as many frags as I can. I have started a program with my local MAS that actively promotes this. Any of you guys end up in Dallas/Fort Worth for business etc, PM me.

FWIW I didn't notice I had them until more than 2 years after I added my last Acro. They can hang around a long time and not be noticed.
