whats up with zoo colony?

in the right where there's a bare spot, i cut out 4-5 heads with a clean xacto knife about 1.5 weeks ago.

now, i don't know what's up with the polyps i've not seen this happen to any of my other colonies...any ideas?

it isnt flow blasting them, it wasn't just because of a random snail/hermit going over it.

Break out the flashlight and see what's going on at night. More likely than not you've got a worm that uses a floating strand of mucus to catch its food that is aggravating the zoas. Do you have a better pic of the base? They seem to look physically OK aside from being closed.

at first i thought it was nudis, but i haven't added anything to the tank in probably a month, and it was just a small pink frag and a larger pink zoo rock, and i FW dipped both.

then i thought it may be asterina stars, because i've seen a couple near there, but never ON the frags.

they look like they are wilting and dying, but only those five or 6.

here's a pic just over a month ago, so they were doing fine recently

looks like some type of worm has started making a colony on the rock:

OR i found this small little snail on a different polyp:

or its something else

both are fine. The first is just a type of tubeworm, filterfeeder that doesnt harm anything.
the second is a small type of snail, an algae grazer. When i first saw them a few months ago i hought they were sundials because of the stripes, but they are not. I dont remember the exact species name... It starts with a c... cerr-something? ANyways, they are just algae grazers. Sundials is a posibility, but judging by the picture provided, i would say it is a good one.

no. not cerith. It's a much longer name than that. I'm still looking but i cant find the place where i first learned about them.
WOuld getting a closer picture be possible? Of even if you are able to turn them over you can tell much easier.

btw, i don't know if it is or not, but someone said the white dots on the face of the zoos look like zoopox. i can't remember if that is just sand or not, so i'll have to look in the morning.

if it is zoopox, i'll be dropping out of the secret santa

The worm is a fan worm and shouldn't be irritating your zoas. Can't tell if your snail is a sundial or not unless you can get a close up of the shell.

This might help you figure out whether or not you've got a sundial

If you look closely at your pictures taken on 12/15 you have the start of zoapox and that is what is doing the damage. You should get some Furan and dip them according to the thread in the zoanthid forum. That is not a sundial snail. Good luck

that's what someone else suggested as well. And sadly, i looked at some other pink zoos that weren't opening today and it looks like they are covered in pox

i'll be looking for that furan stuff now, because i have a feeling that's my issue.

do i need to treat all my zoos, or just visibly poxed ones?

I think it's asterina stars. I'm having the same issue right now. Where ever there are dead patches of zoas the stars a munching away on the half dead polyps. I've been siphoning them out every few days.

any asterina i see on that rock hits the fuge. i'm not taking chances, but i'm afraid more that it is zoo pox. a pink colony i have has the same white spots on them and some are wilting
