Can anyone ID

Alright, we have been cycling for about a week now. I am noticing 2 different type of something. Can anyone ID?

agree...1st pick looks like a sponge. 2nd pick maybe a sponge also. Really hard to see. Can you post a sharper image of the second one?

Second one looks almost like the "slime" for lack of a better word that's often left behind when a coral or something similar dies. When you move the rock around, does it make a cloud in the water? If you're just cycling, it could be a sponge or something similar that died. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

So, since the tank is cycling, It will all die off as expected correct?

No easy answer as to will they die off during the cycle....depends entirely on the tank conditions & any food sources.

If they don't, you might want to keep an eye on the second one -- it looks like an invasive species. The first ones look okay.

IME sponges usually grow on the bottom of rocks or in the shade, not directly on top like the second one. If it were me i'd take it out and scrub it.

I took out the rock and sprayed it off good, All gone! Lets see if it comes back
