Absolutely Fish

Well, after a week at Lake Anna (VA) and a few days in Princeton, NJ I decided to reroute my trip home. I stopped at Absolutely Fish in Clifton, NJ. WOW!!! That place is quite amazing. The coral selection was pretty good and the fish selection was outstanding. There had to be at least 40 or 50 55g tanks full of exotic fish, stuff you NEVER see around here. Prices were anywhere from very good to completely absurd. All of the corals were priced very reasonably, the fish on the otherhand were hit or miss. I think I did very well with my purchases. If you are ever in that area you really should check them out.

They gave me a stro from one of their shipments and the bags were filled with "pure" O2. The drive was only about 5 hours so the O2 probably wasn't needed. I only brought back one coral and on fish so a regular sized fish box was all that was needed. If money were no object I would have brought back a lot more!

You show me yours, I'll show you mine. I'll try to get pics within the next day or two. The coral is in the tank, I just have to figure out where the heck the fish is going to go.

Pics

Here you go Mac . . .

No coral photos yet though.

I hope it does well. It is in a temp enclosure in the sump right now. I need to get a species tank setup soon. Like the dead Monti it's hiding under?

Unbelievable. You happened to find that fish in stock by luck- or did you already know they had one?

I kenw they had one, but thought it was a different species. Before I actually saw it I was told it was a "purple" Rhinopias, so figured it was a Rhinopias eschmeyeri. Those are much more common than R. frondosa, which I believe this is, so I was pleasently surprised.

It's a Weedy Scorpionfish, Rhinopias frondosa. I was really really luck to find it. They have been coming in more frequently, but this one was at the store for over a month and eating well. I'm really surprised it was still there after that much time.

Nice Steve. Pet's Plus got a few of them in. Not as colorful as yours. Both were a pale cream color. A friend of mine got one a few months ago. It's doing well. He just sits on the bottom, right up front all day long.

The one at Pet's Plus had a bought with a spiny lobster, and lost his bottom jaw. You can guess what happend to him after that.

Steve, what size is he. i'm looking to get a purple weedy for my soon to be setup agressive fowlr and have yet to find any local. do they change to purple as they get larger or is it just hit or miss on the color. can you point me to some good info on these guys as what i've found has been limited and want to see if a scorpion will fit my setup. thanks.

No, I don't believe they change color with age. I've never seen one at any of the stores in Rochester, but since they are coming in more frequently you may. Tom mentioned he would check to see about ordering one for me a couple of weeks ago, but I happened upon this one in NJ. Because of the way they feed I think it would be better for them to be in a smaller tank. I'm working up some plans for a new tank now for this guy. It will be a reef, but most likely all soft corals and lps.

Check out this link:

http://www001.upp.so-net.ne.jp/reef-...borokasago.htm

It is in Japanese, but you can get it translated on Alta Vista. Not exactly readable, but there is some good info in there.

Also check out this:

Keep me posted if you acquire one.
