VHO vs HO

Can someone enlighten me regarding being able to keep clams under HO and not under VHO? I thought that VHOs are of higher wattage or am I mistaken?

do you mean t5 ho, cf, or just t8ho?

If you mean t5ho they are much more intense and penetrate deeper than vho.

T8, and cf lighting isn't enough for clams.

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking that VHOs were brighter because of the higher wattage compared to the t5 HOs

with t-5, the main reason they are so much brighter is because the bulbs are skinner and you can use much more efficient reflectors. The best fixtures have individual reflectors for each bulb. Without this set up the fixtures aren't much better than your ordinary vho setup.
