Fan controllers

I am wondering if anyone has used a fan controller built for a PC to control their fans for their lights? You can get a controller, 5 fans, and a powersupply for under $20 that will automatically turn the fans on at different temps.

You could also control your heater and chiller with this I would think, as long as you use a relay so you dont blow the controller.

Any thoughts?

Don't they measure air temps, not water temps?

They will work in water. I have a water cooling system on my PC right now with a probe in the tank. When it reaches a certain temp, it kicks on another fan.

The probes normally are used to detect surface and air temperatures. No different than the ones you stick on the side of your tank. It will just take some time to calibrate.

I am going to try it out since its only $20.

tigerdirect.com

I made the mistake of not reading one of the ads for the fans, I thought it was 5 fans for $5, but it was just a pic of 5 fans together. but they do have a 5 pack of fans for $15.

I already have the fans and power supply, so I am going to pick up another controller and see how it does on my new tank while its cycling.

do you have a link to the actual controller ... I cant find it. I did see one controller on that site for 19.99 but it did not have temp probes like you said.

Im relay retarded ... any idea how hard this would be for the elctrical illiterate? I am hoping you will do it first and provide us with the how to's.
