Nano Additives
Just wondering what additivies people dose their nano's with. Was wondering if people think that the weekly changes replace enough trace elements or do they add a little extra to their tanks.
Name and brand if you dose, if you just do water changes say so.

You have to be real careful when adding additives to a nano -- too easy to mess up and crash your tank with so little water volume. Nanos can be unforgiving that way. I wouldn't dose anything unless you really need to, and just do weekly water changes instead.

Doing water changes should do the trick balancing levels. Like mentioned above, be careful when dosing. Nano tanks dont give much space for mistakes.

If you're monitoring your alkalinity, pH, calc, and other parameters frequently and you're only dosing small amounts then you're probably ok. Most people (myself included) don't test their parameters often enough though...
I'm not sure what Reef Solution is so I can't really give an opinion on that.

Never dose anything that you aren't testing for. There are many different factors as to whether or not you will need to dose any chemicals, and that can be determined via testing. If your calc/alk levels are low you can dose two-part calc/alk or top off with kalkwasser. If your mag is low, you can dose magnesium every so often to keep ur levels up.

For now, just regular water changes and kalk via top off water.

I haven't found the need to dose anything yet either for my 12g. My calcium/alk stays in check with weekly 10% water changes with ReefCrystals. I don't have a huge stocking of lps (yet) so they're not calicifying enough to warrant dosing of calc.

I use trace about once a week in 1/2 the recommended dose between my weekly WC's and I am currently adding Magnesium to get keep it at 1500-1600 to kill the Bryopsis.
I also buffer my top-off water with SuperBuffer.

In my 12 Gal Nano Cube I dose the following
Weekly Strontium Iodine PH BUff Magnesium 2x a week Calcium Phytoplankton Everyother week Trace elements The dr fosters and smith catalog usually always has a list of the recommended additives and their function |

I think if your trying to keep SPS your going to have to dose some. Although I do agree that you should be testing for everything you are dosing also. That said I dose B-Ionic 15ml's each daily, also I do 15-20% water changes every 1-2 weeks with Red Sea Coral Pro.

Not dosing yet but plan on trace elements b/c I use cheap salt.
Who makes a good Magnesium test kit?

Why don't you buy good salt and not worry about it
 Sorry, but that's bordering on outlandish. Buy good salt. No excuse not to. Elos makes a good Mg kit if you're not into 10ppm resolution. Salifert is a decent Mg kit. Seachem kit is a pain, and last kit I bought doesn't match their reference sample.

I'm thinking of using the IO boxes that make 5 gallons. It's all premeasured, just dump and stir. Otherwise I might have to measure down to the nearest teaspoon if I use bulk in a bucket.
