DSB or Shallow?

Im changing my sand bed and I want to get some advice on which I should go with, also I have ben looking at these sands which is better? any other suggestions? If I went shallow bed which I beleive is 2" how do you clean the sand bed?

Sand:

Caribsea Aragamax Sugar Sized Sand

Caribsea Ocean Direct oolite (IS this really live, they claim its better then arag live)

with a shallow bed can you still use nassarius snails? fighting conch?

I wouldn't pay for live sand again. You pay almost double, and for what, not much because the only thing it may do is speed your cycle by about a week. I have set up a tank with only a 1"bed and just vacumm over the top to keep it clean. From what I gather a deep bed can help alot, but needs to be vaccumed to keep it clean. If not vacucmed then it can trap too much detrius and cause problems, not to mention the poisons gas that can be released if it's left alone long enough to build up. Personal I love sand and like my shallow sand bed. Easy to clean and keep clean.
