Vegas Aquarium

Hey Everyone, Happy Holidays!

I'm going to Vegas in a few days, and I was wondering if any of you have been to the Mandalay Bay Aquarium? I thought I'd check it out.

Is there any other reef related things worth checking out while I'm out there so I can keep myself busy instead of throwing away money at the casino tables?

I was just there at mandalay bay a few weekends ago. The shark's reef doesn't have any "reef" but some cool displays of sharks. I'd say go in the daytime, at night it's lit kind of weird.

fun place for kids, but for reefers, a little on the boring side. Fun nevertheless.

You could go to OG's. I've heard they have nice clams

I hated Mandalay Bay. Lots of sick and dying fish. Stingrays in the touch pool had open wounds on them. Lots of tangs had HLLE. I tried to tell some of the people that worked there but they just said "We have a Marine Biologist in charge here. I think he knows what he is doing". One of the people actually told me that they just replace the fish constantly. They are cheap enough. On top of they they charge more than most real aquariums. I will never go there again.

I don't know if it's possible but you should see if you can check out ATM http://www.acrylicaquariums.com/index.shtml
or at least call them and ask where the best tanks are to view. Just look through their gallery and you will see why you should check them out.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Luckily I don't gamble anymore, that's why I'm looking for alternate forms of entertainment while I'm out there for a whole week.

I will have to agree on the quality of the Shark Reef display out there. Some of it is ok, but most of it just looks like a really fake and poorly designed attraction. There are some interesting displays, but the reef section, there were a lot of fish in poor health. My favorite were the numerous tangs with HLLE.

Poor guys.
