Very simular to a Red Dragon but threadwheel. Klause and the owner of ATB are good friends.

Yes, sometime first part of 2006. It came from Gary at Captive Oceans. He picked it up from Klaus in Germany and brought it back on the plane with him. Then he delivered it and then we celebrated some at the pub.

The Large (pictured) is just under $2000. The Extra Large is just under $2400.

For a long time, recirculating skimmers were considered among the best. Now we're seeing all these skimmers that are single pass. How are these superior to something like a deltec recirc?

I personally see no advantage to recirc skimmers. I really think it was just another gimmick to sell skimmers. The big deal was supposed to be longer air to water contact time. but that is not want happens. In reality the only advantage is that they can be fed by the overflow. But how many people run 100% of their return water through the skimmer? Also many of us with high turnover return pumps don't have a film on their waters surface like those with low flow.

Thanks Greg, that certainly makes sense. I really like the looks of those cone skimmers. I bet they are a lot bigger in real life than they appear in the pictures. I was looking at the dimensions, man, they must be big, in a good way! One thing I like is it appears the bubbles start very low in the skimmer - in my H&S they start darn near 1/2 way up. Seems to be inefficient to me.

Anyway, I'd love to see it running when you get it going. I'd bring the beer!

Greg,

Where did you get that pic from ? I checked on ABT site and all I see is the grey color type, I am thinking of getting one too.
