I do little trick to all my corals.

1. Turn off filter (During day time)
2. Leave 2 pwerhead on and put some cycopezee (Did I spell right?)
3. wait about 4-5 min
4. Now most of my Acan Lord and Dendro and Micro knows it's feeding time : ). Rainbow and OC are little slow but you could start
5. Turn off all water flow
6. Start direct feed with baby medication feeder (I cut little more so little bigger food could be released)
7. Enjoy watching your corals for about 10min
8 Turn powerhead back on
9. give about 5-7min
10. Turn filter on

I mix cycopezee+mysis+shirmp (If mysis is big one need to chop so as shrimp)

Good luck with your new addtion.

Chris

A little late, but here is my acan that i found at a LFS for a cheap price. It appeared to be recently fragged, and is more yellow green around the edges where it is repairing itself. I think it is a rainbow.

Hey Dennis,

I will have the same colony as you have with 50 to 60 heads. I saw couple of them but I didn't get it. Now I changed my mind since it's very cool and nice...

Since I have a similar piece, I wanted to jump in! the piece is grown over to the back and down the side. Probably 20 heads or so total.

I noticed mine reject cyclop-eeze. I feed them whole mysis , and keep the fish at bay with a long piece of rigid airline tubing.

I'd say my piece may not be, the only other colors than orange and green are the single whit streak pictured, and a small blue spot that only covers about 5 - 10 % of the colony. Is there a different marketable name for this coloration?
I like the piece, but hate spot feeding corals.
Anyone NOT feeding their lps directly?

yeah. ur right. it's not rainbow. lol.

I think something to look for in rainbows is a good coverage of all 4 colors: orange, green, blue, and yellow. blue and yellow will likely be less than orange and green, but still a considerable amount should be present.

So there seems to be 2 new morphs to the OC and Rainbow spectrum.

The predominantly orange w/ some green and the predominantly green w/ some orange. Or maybe these 2 should be clumped together into a new orange/green morph.

hmmm...what's orange and green? hehe.

Cool, I this is the reason I started this post...

I want to make little clear to everyone what Org Rainbow Acan is (Also I wanted to know) and there is few different so called Rainbow color pattern Acans.

Even they are not same color pattern as Org Rainbow they are all nice looking Acans to me.

Let's see more...

Thanks

Chris

Okay, this is not "scientific" by any means. just my own observation. and I apologize in advanced for using your pictures. just lmk and I can take yours off if you wish.

But from what we've gathered thus far, I can see 4 clear (well, at least somewhat clear) color morphs/schemes/etc.

Orange Crush seems to be on one end and the Rainbow seems to be on the other in terms of color combinations. The new intermediate color morphs seem to either be closer to the OC w/ mostly orange and some green (and some patches of white, like an OC) and the other has a substantial amount of green, a little blue, and a hint of yellow; so closer to the rainbow end imo. Oh, and the whitish color seen even in OC seems to get progressively more blue as you move down the list.

I put them into groups below (tho I'm still kinda on the fence w/ birdman's).

Orange Crush

New Morph - (mostly Orange) - unnamed

New Morph - (Orange & Green) - unnamed

Rainbow Acan

what y'all think? Maybe others may draw the lines between morphs differently. just did it for fun so no harm if u disagree.

Well done. Tigahboy...

I agree with color pattern mostly orange, mostly Orange/green.

So, I guess mostly orange is close to OC and mostly Orange/green is close to Rainbow I guess.

Oh, as Tigahboy said this is kinda done to see different pattern right Tigahboy? Someone's piece might change color up or change color to somthing else.

So, we could say there is 4 kinda different color pattern

1. OC
2. OC like most orange but not OC
3. Rainbow like most orange/green but not rainbow
4. Rainbow

Even this is all about names and all... I am happy to see there is certainly different color pattern morph and they are all looking COOL to me.

Now I want each color pattern.....
I got one for OC like and Rainbow like and Rainbow so next target will be OC : ) : ) : )

Chris.

thanks. yeah, it is possible one of the intermediate color morphs is just a stage and it will eventually become OC or Rainbow. I guess time will tell.

on another note, check out this pic I just took of the rainbow w/ feeding tentacles extended! hehe.

It keeps closing them up by the time the mh's fully fire up, so I just had to take a couple shots while the mh lighting was still transitioning (so a lot of actinics in this pic w/ my T5 actinics providing a lot of the lighting)...

NIce pieces, Tigahboy. I got a couple of subechinatas (?) that did not have much color. One was bleached and the other was receding. The receding one has stopped, but is still fairly brown. The bleached one is picking up color and some nice fluorescent green highlights. I'm hoping it turns into some nice color morph.

are these acan lords or echinata?

I was notified that even Tigah's are echinata and not lords... is that true?

They look nice no matter what the heck they are..
