Day by day log of a newbies 30 gallon, TBS startup tank

I am starting up a 30 gallon reef tank using the TBS "package". It thought it might be nice to document my progress. Here is my first picture. All I have right now is my tank, heater, and light. I have an Aqau-C remora on the way, 2 Maxijet 900's, and an assortment of tests, and other misc items. All this should arrive Wed, or Thur. I am planning on having the TBS "package" delivered Sat. if all goes well.

Everyone has to start from the beginning. Sounds like you have done some research, that's good. I'll keep watching your thread for updates

Nicely done and the correct way to start. Mine was kinda diaster. Started the tank with salt water and sand, next day, 12lbs of rocks and two clowns at the same time. You can obviuosly guess what happen to them.

Your setup is almost similar to mine ... can't wait for more update on your progress

I can't wait myself, to finally get started ... how was your TBS rock? Did you get any hitchhikers?

Ok, here we go. The pictures follow. I have arranged the rock in the final picture. There are so many hitchhikers it is nuts. I hate to imagine how I am going to figure out how to put the last 30 pounds in without damaging anything!!!

Sorry I'm not trying to hijack your thread I love my TBS rock.
I have few different types of rock in my system and the TBS rock is may favorite.
I might even setup a tank with just TBS rock and fish that are native to the area.
Here's a few pic's of some of my TBS rock.
Wooglin
I spent hours day after day just looking for new stuff that I haven't found yet.
The last batch has been in the tank since January of this year and I'm still finding new stuff, I don't sit in the dark with a flashlight as often anymore, I think it's time to place another order

You might give it a couple days and see if it looks any better, I had some that died of that looked fine and others that didn't look so well are still alive today.

Don't worry about the quick cycle that's one of the benifits of buying liverock from TBS. Since it's pulled fresh and kept fresh until you recieve it , It will already have a fair amount of bacteria established so you will have little if any cycle.

Yea you will be truely amazed at how much life lives. I haven't lost a piece of sponge since I introduced my second batch. My first trial went nuts when I didn't know much. After coming here, they were kind of enough to swap out my dead rock for more live rock and critters free of charge. I'm going to take pictures tommorrow.
