Makes a great Mothers Day present. Nothing says " I Love You" like a acan maxima. Although I'm not a fan of them, I'm actually suprised its not sold yet.

I will take two for that price. What I really want to know is how fast do they grow?

I can't fathom why a coral would cost that much.

I've seen this piece many times. I've offered to buy it several times but Chris never wanted to sell it. At one time he did give me a price, but I think it was just to shut me up already. Since I probably asked 10 times by then. I will say it was more then $1500.

This coral is amazing. Its not as bright red as the picture shows, but its red and blue.

Does it inflate to twice the sized of the skeleton?

I don't know about twice. It comes to the edge and is more fluffy then the picture.

That's the problem with the Acan Maxima's that I've seen. The don't cluster like Lorhowensis or Micromussa's so it's hard to differentiate them between a small group of Lobo's or if they're really Maximas. For that price, I'd like irrefutable evidence that are truely Maximas.

Speaking of that, does anyone have a link handy to the "acan maxima" thread from a while back?

Two things bother me with online coral purchases.
The colors always seem to be enhanced and there's no scale too really know how big the piece is. For me it's seeing before purchasing, especially if it's expensive.

knowing Chris and Kris that is a maxima. Chris is the best at IDing any type of coral. If I had the cash I would buy it.

And for the record, I have ordered many times from RM and found their items to be accurately represented as far as size and coloration.

Says it's 3" so it's a Scoly IMO. Maxima coralites are up to 2" maximum (Aims site). Also, the coloration is typical Scoly.

What do you think of the one above linked from EBAY. I'm thinking it's a maxima and was told by Kris at RMI that it was also.

Just my opinion, but I still have not seen an Acanthastrea maxima in captivity. Most of the corals I've seen called Maxima's are not even remotely close.
