My Goniopora
These are most of the Goniopora that I currently have. Several of them are still bleached from when we lost power during a huge ice storm back in January. They're slooowly recovering though.
10 Goniophytes (baby Gonioporas). All are over 1 1/2 years old. 4 or 5 are over 2. I kept this one in a 29g bb tank for 11 months before moving it into a larger tank. Red, before it bleached in January. Bleached purple. It remained completely retracted for 2 months after it bleached. Zooxanthellae is starting to repopulate now. Interesting brown. It looks like a mound of polyps, but there is a horizontal branch in there. Branching species. I have a continuing thread about it HERE Another purple with a bleached purple next to it. It's interesting that one colony bleached while the other didn't. The bleached one was fragged off of the other one over a year ago. Stokesi Mothership. All of those babies in the first picture developed and dropped off of this one over the last 2 years. It still has 7 or 8 buds on it. When those drop, there's not going to be much left.....

Interesting colony with a flat growth form.
Another bleached one. Small Fry. This one is premature, but it's growing. It dropped at the beginning of February after the ice storm.

Yeah, it bleached a little due to my clowns wanting to host in it. I moved it to my frag tank for now to see if they will forget... 180 gallons WITH an anemone, and they pick my 3" goni to host in *sigh*.

"John Kelly" so what is the secret to keeping the beautiful babies. What type of food do you feed them, water parameters, etc. Is one species more hardier than the other? I would like to get a red one but not sure if these can be kept and thrive in captivity.
Thanks. |

Yea, what he said.
You obviously have a great understanding of what these corals need to be happy, very happy. You should share your knowlage with the rest of us. ( lighting, water flow?) You probably have the healthiest collection in all of North America. Great job! |

Your gonios are thriving man....
I have a yellow jewel. Bought it from a LFS about a month ago. It's quite moody at times. It will open up well at night but during the day, with all lights on, it will slowly retract. By 3pm, most polyps retracted. And I notice its color is fading on one side. I placed it at bottom, slightly under a hugh LR plate. Low current here. And my water parameters as below. Lighting is not so good. 3 white Florescent tubes, 1-atinics, and 1 T5HO Aqua blue. Any idea or help? Thanks

I need an ice storm to make some babies for me Nice pics on those. I had one exactly like yours Roklem, but I sold it, took up to much room and stung a couple of expensive pieces. Had I had more room I never would have gotten rid of it.
