Dendrophyllia feeding
I just pick up my dendro (2 adult heads and 1 med head) and I do not see it openning even I offer food. This was in LFS for about 1 month when I saw it 3 weeks ago they opened during day time but I guess they were not feeding well...
It don't think it died... I heard I need to offer food at least every other day... I am just little worried... Could some give me little advise? Thanks Chris |

Don't worry, they are way tough and tend to be a bit shy at first. I get frozen chunk squid from the lfs and thaw it in a tea strainer under hot water. Then wag a chunk in front of the polyp. With any luck it will get very interested when it smells the food and will come out. Don't bump it or jar it, just tempt it.
If it doesn't bite try feeding it at night or in the morning before the lights come on. If it doesn't open at night after a week or so then you can worry... |

If I pick it up and saw her open I would not probably worried...
I only saw her open about 3 weeks ago so who know LFS was not able to feed her for 1-2 weeks... I tried to put raw shimp that we eat next to Dendro during night time and waitted 30min but... By looking at her color she is still good but not seen her open for full 24 hours now.... I will try to take a pic and put it on other Dendro posting... Thanks Chris |

As long as the dendros has its mouth nicely shut, you should be okay.
Check to see if their skeletons are turning matte white, if so, that's what I call decalcifying and it will not recover. Healthy ones should have a nice layer of flesh all over the skeleton and slimy to the touch (but don't touch). They are sensitive to some water parameters and movement at first. Don't move them around. They prefer to be in areas with a little more flow and not too much light at first. They love shrimp, but you need stuff like clam juice to stimulate at first. The more stink the better! Once their feeders come out, spray some fine chopped seafood to their direction and let them catch it. You can also use tongs but don't touch their feeders. If you do, they will just shrivel back and will not feed. Once they get eating, they will come out more and more. Good luck! |

They labeled it $100 per polpy but they were not able to sell them for 1 month (They had 2 piece the one that I got and one with 6 heads) and I guess they have difficult time feeding them so I got it for trade...
So did not cost money... but trading was somthing like rare coral about $90-$120 I think... Thanks Chris |
