i have a green wellsi colony that looks an awful lot like that. what does it look under actinics?

I do have a merletti colony with blue interiors (pink outside). I think any blue on a blasto is pretty sweet.

Yeah its under one 175W ushio 10k and one 65W PC actinic. Not the highest lighting, certainly.

Mine does color up a little brighter green in the center disk than the pic shows.

pyrrhus, you have marleti the same color? Thats sweet. Ive only seen the red combo colors on that species, or so it seems.

So blue wellsi isnt as uncommon as it seems? I like the pink and purple color combos too.

Blue/Purple blasto wellsi are as uncommon as they come. I am drooling w/envy...

I used to have 20+ colonies of blastos till a strange disease/contagion that came with a new colony and wiped them all out (only blastos)!

They were hard to find before, and harder now...

I agree that "blue blastos" aren't as blue as you would think. But I don't think they get any more blue, the color reference is thus fairly accurate considering what you have to compare to with blasto wellsi coloration.

IMHO

I've seen some blue & purple B. wellsi's before, they are uncommon. I wouldn't call yours blue from the picture, but it looks like an interesting morph, I'd be happy to own it.

Unfortunately I wasn't too much of a camera person back then. I do take pics now, after the fact. I do have a few laying around but can't seem to resize to small enough size to upload.

I guess to post I need to take pics with lower definitions.

Sorry.

Where do you people get all these nice blastos? I want a nice colony so bad, but can't find one at all. Do you see them in the lfs or what?

I got my blasto's at a lfs it has about 20 heads for $90. The lfs had them under vho lighting and they didn't look blue there. They were a dull color. When I got them home and put them in my tank I was amazed of their color. I guess it was a lucky find.

mine was also at a LFS. under their lighting, which was higher than mine actually, it looked all blue grey.
I tried to frag my colony today and i only got a polyp and a half off with the other half dangling from the frag, lol. ya think it will recover alright? D'Oh! maybe it will be ready to trade one day.

I ended up with two half polyps when I fragged a wellsi. One half lived and recovered, one half died.

FWIW,
Kevin

the frag looks alright. the hanging portion isn't opening, which i expected, but the rest is just fine.

kevin, did you take a diamond bit dremel to your peice? I tried shears, which was a huge headache with accuracy of cut.

thanks for the reply
