Just curious... LED lighting?
Hello!
I am about to re-setup my tank, and I am planning on housing a frogfish (angler). I am thinking of wiring my own lighting for the tank using about 300 LED's (5mm, 3.3V, 13000cmd for whites and 470nm for blues). I was wondering if a clam would be happy with this sort of lighting? If not, that's cool. I'd rather find out now before I snag one and find that it's not good enough. Please LMK what you think. Thanks! -Ben |

there's a lot of talk about led's on the DIY fourm.and from what ive read so far i dont think it would be good for a clam right now. maybe in a few years, but right now i would have to say no.

I would have to agree with mbbuna... Since now everyone is looking at this technology for lighting, it shoudl be more easily and depednly safe in the near future. For now its still considered in its testing phase...

Sounds good, I'll hold off on the clam then. Thanks for the feedback!

back when I got my 135g tank I attempted the LED route, used 100 over a 18" x 18" area.. and while it did look bright, when I flipped on my 4 55w 10000k pc bulbs over the rest of the 72" length you really could not tell the LEDs were on at all
I think they were 8000 mcd ones, at the time. Although I now have a bunch of 25000mcd ones I was going to use on a project, but that fell through so now I got a bunch of them collecting dust
