temporary skimmer setup
I have a MTC HSA-1000 skimmer I recently purchased that I really want to get running on my tank. My sump isin't drilled for running an external pump (Iwaki md55rlt) Any suggestions on how I can run this until I get a new drilled sump?

That's an easy one. Run the inlet to the pump over the sump. Like a J hook and you'll be set.

This is a good example of what I mean...
Hope that helps. Peace, John H. |

Thank you very much! I've been in the hobby for awhile but have never dealt with an external skimmer setup, I wasen't sure if running a loop would cause problems for the pump.

Or you could buy a cheap 20 gallon rubbermaid container and run it with bulkheads. They are easy to drill or cut for your bulkheads.

No problem with running a loop, just make sure you make the loop an adequate size.

Just buy a bit a drill the hole. I drilled mine two weeks ago... just use lots of water and a diamond bit. I used the cheap ones from hong kong you buy on ebay. My advice if you go that route though is to first cut a scrap piece of glass with it. This will do two things for you.
1. Get you used to cutting glass on a cheap scrap piece so you are less likely to break your tank 2. Sometimes the cheap bits from ebay aren't very even on their cutting edge... so cutting on a cheap piece of glass first will make it a little more even and easier to use. Woohoo... go for it. Appreciate the info on cutting the glass. I'll either do that or get an acrylic from glass cages, thier pretty cheap I can get a 50 Gal. Long 48 x 18 x 13 for $80.00 I have alot more confidence in drilling that than glass. drilling would be cheaper though. Either way I have it running with a loop now and it's working well so I have some time to consider my options.
