Calerpa

Hi all, I have too much calerpa and I have to start pruning. Anybody interested in taking some off my hands? I have the spagetti type and feathered type. lots of it.

I would be very interested in about one month - building a new sump with Refugium - would you have some around then?

John,

Calerpa is the macro that Anthony Calfo recommended that people very careful with. If you have enough in your tank and it goes sexual, it can wipe out a tank. I've been ripping mine out. I would suggest reading up on it before you put it in your tank so that you know what it can do.

Hi Dave, thank you. That is the reason I am pruning it. I do monitor it very carefully.

Sorry to change the topic. What would anyone else recommend instead of using caluerpa? I heard mangrooves are good but get big. I have fears someday my tank will be wiped out by this stuff if it goes crazy.

I've started switching to chaetomorphia ( sp?). The spaghetti macro algae. It hasn't taken off yet so I don't have any to offer anyone. But I will as soon as I need to prune it.

Anthony Calfo in his article actually recommended just plain sea grass, anyone know of a source?

Carlyle I got my turtle grass at www.floridapets.com they also have other types of sea grass. Please do some research about what kind will work best for you because it is a little harder to care for but worth it

JEMichael IV ask in a earlier post and I was the only one that replied the grass grows slower then caulerpa because its a true plant but as soon as I have some extra I let ya all know. Or Sea Dwelling Creatures carries it sometimes so check with LFS that get there live stock from them you may get lucky.

Thanks Boss and please keep me in mind if you have a little overgrowth as my Refugium looks quite bare now with no Caulerpa
