Yellow Tangs are notoriously territorial. Was the Tang in the tank before the Copperband? If so, you may have to move some rockwork around to break up the established territorial boundaries. I had the same problem with my Sailfin Tang when I introduced my CBB even though the CBB was quite a bit larger. After about a week and a few nipped fins things settled down but I believe that Yellows are much more tenacious.

How long have they been together?

Which one was added first?

I have a yellow tang and copperband in my 150g with no problems...they were added at the same time and both are small fish (1.5-2").

Yup! Established territory, superior size, similar shape and coloration. Not good with a yellow tang.

Is your CBB eating? If not, I would definitely either remove the CBB or rearrange the rockwork, never easy in a reef tank, I know .

If it is eating, you might want to keep an eye on them for a couple of days to see how things go before trying the above.

he is picking at the live rock, i got him so that he would eat the aptasia anemones in the tank and I have not yet seen him eat one. my husband and I just rearraged the rock, it took a couple hours. changing a reef is never easy

Good decision, I hope things smooth out between them now.
BTW one thing I found to make sure that my CBB was eating well was to put in a half live mussel (from the supermarket) every few days. The CBB loves that! Watch your skimmer though, it will go into hyperdrive for about twenty minutes after you feed the mussel.
Good luck !

BTW My CBB never touched the single aptasia I had on a piece of live rock!

Just keep an eye on them, make sure they're only posturing toward each other and not causing any damage.

My flame angel chased the yellow tang for about 3-4 days, now they swim around together.
