Vodka shots

Can anyone help me with dosing vodka to my FOWLR
with nitrate of 250 + and algee problem

I have read in some forum that it can reduce nitrate and phosphate a lot

I will dose about 2 ml of vodka in my setup with around 75 gal of water

Any recommendation

If the tank doesn't have a good skimmer, I wouldn't try it. It's dangerous enough with a skimmer.

I still wouldn't try it.

I tried it once and all it did was upset my fish.

What nitrate test kit are you using and how often do you change water ?

I don't care for Red Sea kits personally.

See if your lfs has API kits (Aquarium Pharmaceuticals) They are inexpensive and surprisingly accurate.

I'd suggest cutting back on the feedings, getting a phosban reactor, and increasing frequency of water changes until the numbers go down. Also, are you using ro/di water? If not, that may be waht is causing some of your readings. A remote deep sand bed may also help. There are several posts here about making a remote bed using materials like a salt tub.

How does the newly-mixed water measure up for nitrate content? How big is the tank, and how much food is going into it?

wow....0 to 250 in two days?!!! That's out of sight. Are you running a canister filter? If yes, when was the last time you cleaned it? If no, what kind of filtration do you have?

is it really dirty when you change it? you obviously have something generating massive amounts of nitrate in your tank. Gotta find the source!

Add some purigen, carbon and phosban while having a shot of the vodka for yourself. I'm currious to know, how is the flow in the tank? You might have some dead spots in the tank somehwere where food might be accumulating and decaying.
