xenias vs. aiptasia

I have a xenia which is being touched by an ugly aiptasia. Can the aiptasia harm the xenia? Is it safe to kill it with joe´s juice bieng so near to the xenia?

Yes the aiptasia can harm and could very well kill the xenia. I agree with the above. Just hit the aiptasia, the xenia will deal with it.

Are aiptasias not reef safe? In other words can they kill corals? Or they just populate the surroundings and avoid growth from corals?

Crap and I don´t just have a few. Have been injecting joes juice now and then. Is it ok to clear the entire tank with joes juice on one opportunity or should I do it gradually. The have also told me to put a certain type of butterfly which is very sharp in eating the small one, is this true?

My peppermint shrimp cleared my tank of the 3-4 I had.

But I was not feeding at the time and forced them to seek out their own food.

I have heard this is hit or miss though.

what is the biggest aiptasia anyone has seen. In my tank probably I´ve had one about an inch and halve long. Do they grow huge in the wild? What is their role in the wild anybody know.

there was a tank in town here that looked like it had zooanthids (well, actually palythoa) covering everything. They eventually added a very lucky coral banded butterfly and a handfull of peppermints-- now it's pretty nice!

I added a coral banded butterfly about 4 days ago and my clown tang gave him such a good welcome that I´m still waiting for it to come out from behind the rocks. I hope he eventually comes out and eats all of the aiptasia. I also added a peppermint. I really hope my butterfly comes out.

I´ve been using Joes´Juice also but there are some aiptasias that are really tough to get, I hope the butterfly gets them. I´ve read about a nudibranch that the only thing that eats is aiptasias. Once all aiptasias are gone you have to get him out of the tank and donate him because he will die without aiptasias. If nothing works I will try to get one of those.
