A Mandarin is the ultimate grazing fish, they constantly eat during the day (and night). Unless you are able to offer a constant supply ofhighly-nutritional foods (like Pods) then you are not going to sustain them.

You are welcome to try, but there is a reason why the vast majority of Mandarins starve in captivity.

Some mandarins (the minority) will take prepared foods. But these foods are only ideal as a supplement to the pods and are usually far less in nutritional value.

When I shopped around for one, all the Green Mandarins did not eat when fed frozen or live mysis. But the spotted ones mostly did. And thats the one I ended up purchasing. It has lived happily in my tank for about 3 month and is looking rather porkly.

I have a 1.5 year old 54 gallon mixed reef with a 12 gallon sump.

Review what Zaita said. Success is measured after a year and not before that.

Mine with me for almost 6 months now. Eating frozen mysis and grinded prawn meat. Only thing you need to target feed. It even takes a larger piece of food bigger than his mouth. One time a piece of food stuck up on his mouth for hours when he tried to swallow a bigger portion.
