DIY Hood Fans???....

I am looking at putting some DC Fans in my hood. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good fan to use. I was looking at the 95MM Vantek Stealths. This is going on a 75 gallon running 2x250 MH's and 4x55 PC's

These are the specs on the Stealths:

Stealth Fan-"Power in Silence"
Specifications:
Dimension: 92x92x25mm
Rated Voltage: 12V
Power Input: 0.84W
Fan Speed: 1750RPM
Air Flow: 28CFM
Noise: 20dBA

Thats not very much air movement. I have a 100G with 2x250wMH and 2x140wVHO and originally tried 2 120mm variable speed fans rated from 18 up to 41 CFM at full speed. I still couldn't keep things cool so ended up swapping them out for 120mm 84 CFM constant speed fans. The first ones were 21 to 34 dBA and the new ones are 35dBA so they are still fairly quiet. My new Coralvue electronic ballast fans are much louder than the canopy fans.

go with panaflo fans. much more output with little noise. I wouldnt go any higher than 36dba.

I use two 4 dollar Walmart fans. Great air movement and so quiet I can't even hear them. They are in mounted the back of the canopy hidden from view, so their ghetto looks go unappreciated.

Orion makes a pretty good selection of fans too. I have a couple of them that I'm getting ready to install.

what about using fans that came out of the power supplies of a somputer how could one or two of them be hooked into the lighting?

Most of the fans being mentioned are computer fans. I got mine at CompUSA. They are powered by an old cell phone charger power supply and plugged into a timer which comea on the same time as my lights and goes off a little later. I have tried both but found 12v DC fans to be quieter than 120v AC fans.

I have a computer fan I need to wire just like you mentioned.
So, you are saying cell phone chargers convert 120V to 12V and can be used to wire direclty to the fan?
(Of course I would check my own charger and do it at my own risk...)
Anything I need to know or check before I get the wirecuttoers out?

No. Cell phone chargers/transformers only work for 12v DC fans. If it is a 120v AC fan just wire a 2 prong plug right to the fan. I used crimp connectors and heat shrink tubing to make a good splice.
You also need to check the mA output and the DC voltage of the charger and the mA rating of the andd voltage of the fan to make sure they are compatible. I found some chargers were only 9 volts. I think the transformer I used was rated at 1200mA so it would power several fans no problem.
