Best powerhead for 6g nano *price no object*
It seems the maxijet 400 is the top choice for a tank this size but is there something better?

I would think a maxijet might seem a bit big in a 6g, depending on the tank's deminsions. You might also consider a Mini-Jet 606.
Maxi Jet 400: 5w, 106gph Mini Jet 606: 6w 82-153gph Basically same power usage, more flow, and a lot smaller. Just something to think about. |

the Tunze NanoStream's seem to be great little units.

Interesting.. but the minijet606 is not exactly a powerhead.
How could I mount it on the glass and does it come with adjustable nozzle like a maxijet?

Oh...you mean you didn't want your fish swimming in a toilet-bowl style whirlpool all the time???

My powder blue tang loves my barracuda CL system. He seems so bored when I shut it off. Althou I don't think smaller fish aprecite high flow.

The mini jets may not look exactly like your traditional powerhead, but they are a pump, as are PHs, and work basically the same as PHs. I had a mini jet 606 in a 10g for a while, and it worked fine.
As for mounting, the minijets only have 4 built in suction cups, so it would depend on where in the tank you wanted to mount it. We all know how well those suction cups work. You could always come up with some creative DIY to mount. The only other PH/pump I've seen below the MJ 400's 106gph is the Azoo 180, but it's only 48 gph. |

Think the nanostreams flow can be lowered and controlled with one of their tunze controllers; my next tank is prolly going that route so I can get more random flow

Tunze makes a tiny PH that is the size of a match box and has an adjustable flow. It is only around $12 and can be found at the marine depot store. There are 2 models and most people like the first one. Sorry I don't have a link.

Well I got a minijet 606 and it seems like the perfect amount of flow

Here is a link to the Tunze mini. I have two of them and both have been running for well over a year with no problems. Pretty good amount of flow for something so small. For a 6g, I'd use 2 of them. In both my nano's, I run 1 of these for circulation, and a rio 400/600 in back (Both tanks are 10g stocks with acrylic dividers in back for filtration, heater, fuge sections)

hydor mini pico is really small. Smaller than a maxi jet micro jet. Check 'em out.

I have 2 minijet 606's on my 20G AGA nano on opposite sides and it works out great, I also like the fact that you can adjust the flow.

I have a Tunze 6045 on my BB 15g with 80x turnover and it is great, thinking of also adding the 6025 to it for an even more random flow which would bring to around 129 turnover but then again this is going to be an SPS tank, my point here though is our tanks have no wheres near the flows that all of our corals experience in the wild, even the softies tank a good pounding in the wild
