Thank you for all of the kind words, encouragement, and advice! The babies will be 6 days old at 6 pm today. We started with 71 babies, and have lost a few the last day or two. We put them into a different tank last night and recounted them. We are down to 47 with the majority looking strong and healthy. The first pics of the babies were taken at 6 hours. These pics were taken at 5 days 5 hrs. old. You can clearly see the growth, bellies full of food, and their tiger tail pattern devoloping. Additional pics can be viewed at our Photobucket album (lovereefs). Although we will most likely loose more, it's a blessing that so many have survived this long! We are learning more each day and appreciate any advice that could help us. Obviously we can't say if or how many of this first brood will survive. We are hoping for our next brood as early as next week. The intrest in these has been overwhelming! We will respond to EVERYONE who has shown intrest in this thread as soon as we have some ready. It is important to us to do this responsibly, so we will wait until the babies are decent size and eating frozen Mysis shrimp before we share them with the community. Please be patient, we can't rush mother nature. We will continue to post updates as we progress.
Would it be beneficial to post details regarding how we are rearing them? Thanks again! |

This hobby never fails to amaze us! Unfortunately, of the 71 fry we caught, none made it past day 11. We deliberately left approximately 30 fry in the sump and just assumed they met the same fate. At 1:30 am Saturday morning, I completed my culture maintenance and went on to feed the acro's. To my absolute amazement, there was a 1 inch long seahorse dancing in and out of some very heavy current. I watched him for a few and decided to grab the flashlight and magnifying glass. When I returned he was gone. I really doubt that he got sucked through the mag18 to get into the display tank. Most likely he hitchhiked in on some macro which we harvest from the sump to feed the tangs. The amount of threats and predators this little guy has avoided is too long to list. All we can say is WOW and WOW! For those of you who have recently received macro from us, you may want to check...you might have a suprise! We have spent countless hours educating and preparing ourselves with the hope of having better success with the next brood. We are patiently waiting for Clarence and Gladys to share their next gift with us. We will keep you all posted on the progress. Thanks again for all the support and intrest!
