Anemone (carpet and RBTA) propagation

I was actually lucky enough to see Anthony Calfo chop an anemone this past weekend! It's as easy at that, cut it in half. Within an hour or so, the two halves had constricted around the wound so that it was barely noticeable.

how do you frag a carpet?

Snarkys, I believe the same way by cutting it in half. Anthony had mentioned he is only aware of 1 or 2 anemones that can't be propagated this way. Unfortunately, I don't recall which ones they were. I'm sure a little research could shed some light on which ones. You could probably even go to the source and ask Anthony over at the MD forums.

I saw him do so at SaltwaterU Two, I don't think I was the only one in the room holding my breath... Although I admit I winced a lot more watching Borneman cut coral frags on a small table saw, with his fingers mere milimeters from the blade.

How large should an RBTA be before cutting it? Any info on that would be appreciated as I have one about 5" wide that's growing fast. I'd like to cut it to have one for my tank and one to continue raising for propogation.

i think the smaller rbtas cut better than the big ones . might just be because the wound is smaller.
