Was @ Exotic Fish & Corals today

Stopped by Bob's Exotic in Milford and picked up a Mystery, Chevron & Achilles
Bob's a nice & friendly guy and with the CTAR's discount I saved 82 buckaroos. Nice...........................

He also had 2 Idols if anyone was looking. I think I saw a large Lubouti also.

He looks good & hopeful. This will be my 4th try. All the other 3 were med-lg to large.
The one Bob had is about 3.5". Smallest one I've seen in a long time which is good. Bob also told me that I was probably purchasing Hawaii caught Achilles which are deeper water and possibly pinned for decompression.

The Chev & Achilles were in the same selling tank and are swimming together which is cute.

Sorry guys,

They both sucumbed to ich and I recently lost both of them. They were Qt'd for about 10 days and showed no signs but with tangs it's almost inevitable that they are probably carrying the parasite in their gills.

How did you treat the ick? If you haven't tried it liquid garlic drops on flake food work VERY well for getting rid of ick on tangs. You can get the liquid garlic at a health store like GNC.

That sux those are nice fish. What size is your QT tank? Do you have a UV sterilizer running on it? If you dont I suggest getting one. The cost of it will out weigh the fish you are loosing. I had a hippo that should get white spots on it . I would crush up a clove of Garlic and throw it in. Worked wonders..

Good luck with the next bunch..

My Qt is a 20 long that is bare bottom and some pvc pieces for hiding. I run a fluval for biological filtration and there is a 10w UV running at all times along with a MJ1200 powerhead with a foam insert for additional bacteria area and circulation.

IMO, all tangs should be QT'd with at least 50% (25 ppm) of a full copper treatment even if no signs are visable then brought up to 50 ppm if an outbreak occurs.

Thanks guys.

I agree with your shotgun treatment with copper. Did these guys eat for you? Did the ick get worse? Manybe throw some cheato or calurpra in there? Hmm? Did they look sick when you purchased them?

The Mystery wrasse went into my 120g SPS tank and he ended up biting the dust after I noticed a lesion on his side. That tank is very stable and has not lost many fish at all unless I try difficult species.

The Chev & Achilles did not look sick or have symptoms but they also did not eat either for the duration that they were in QT or after I put them into the display tank.
I took them out of QT because they were not eating and was hoping that they would come around in the display. They were heavily infested on day 3 into the display.
I keep 8 Scarlet cleaner shrimps & 4 neon gobies in thedisplay and that didn't even help them.

Before you buy your next fish ask the person in the store if they will feed it for you. This makes a huge difference. When I was managing a pet shop we would not sell a fish without making sure it ate. (Unless it was a special order and then we preferred that the person picked it up before it was out of the bag...

Sorry to hear about your loss, I had an Achilles for almost a year, he was quite the trooper. He would get ich, I'd treat him clear him up for a long while then he would get it again, and I'd treat him again the best part of him/her was hand feeding, of all the fish I've tried to keep his loss hurt the most. Ich couldn't kill him, but loss of power overnight killed him, my potters angel and a naso tang.

I'm now on the search for another!!
