Attn. Phyto Cultivators: Is this a Phytoplankton Culture Crash? *pics*
So this is my first phytoplankton culture setup.
I just split my initial culture about 5 days ago and am wondering if this is condsidered a crash in my culture... I am using Flame Angels method of ohyto culturing (opr at least trying to ) I seem to have large algae particles? growing on the insides of my bottle...when I shake it up there are many little bits and pieces of debris... unlike my initial culture: Pic 1: Setup of all 3 bottles after split, the left bottle is my initial batch which I split, into the middle and right bottles... Are the differences in color ok? (split 5 days ago) Pic 2: Image of the 'gunk particles' on two of the bottles (they are on all 3) Pic 3: Closeup of the gunk inside Pic 4: another closeup So for those of you with phyto cultures, is this normal and safe to feed to copepod and rotifer cultures and to the corals? Or do I need to start again with new culture dishes? Thanks, -ST |

thats normal.. you just need to clean out the bottle or use a new one on your next phyto cut. Its a build up, nothing major. When phyto crashes, it usually looks yellowish.
