top off question

i have a 55g sump under my 125g, but i may have screwed up putting in one of the baffles. i made a very small area for the return pump, so i might have some issues there anyway, but it also turns out that's where my ATO needs to be.
the measurements for the return pump and ATO space is; 11 3/4" long, 4 3/4" wide, and 8" deep. is that big enough? or should i move the baffle?
here's some pics

That is really small even with ATO. I'd move the baffle.

do i even really need a baffle there? would i be ok to take a dremel or a rotozip and just cut the majority of the baffle out? i might leave 2-3" left on the bottom to keep out some of the debris.
or would i be better off cutting the whole thing out and moving it?
