Negotiating for coral... A 'how-to'...

So. We already had 3 dogs. Big dogs. My wife loves dogs. 'Crazy dog lady' thing going on. Small rancher we live in, too. So, what does she do? Comes home with another. A yellow lab. I say no, her and my boy hound me (no pun intended) for a LONG period, and I cave. Doh. That was six months ago. Finally she realized it's too many dogs. So, much to the tears of my son, we give the dog away to a good home (a farm actually, where it'll be loving life).

So, what does this have to do with negotiating for corals? Sitting on the back deck this morning with my wife. My boy comes, and starts 'negotiating' for a $100 lacrosse goal. My wife, feeling very guilty, and a pushover to him, says OK, since we gave the dog away. And of course, offers up my services to go get the goal today. Now comes the good part. Taking up the negotiating where my son left off, I say "Hey, wait a minute! What about me! I've had to put up with that dog for 6 months, house breaking it, chasing it when it jumps our fence, getting attached to it only to have it given away! What do I get!?

"Wait... I know... The fish store is right by where I'm going! I've had my eye on this $100 coral, but haven't bought it because it's too expensive! $100 lacrosse goal for the boy, $100 for a nice coral for me!"

And... She agreed!!! Wooohoooo!!!

So, being the nice guy I am, I look at her with a big smile, and say "Happy mothers day!".

No, now he has a coral AND something for the kid to do besides bugging dad. Sounds like a decently spent 2 bills to me.

It can't.
It can, however, buy you the things that make you happy.

I knew that question would eventually pop up! I got two, a 3.5" acro of some kind, very nice green with blue tips, and a 2" frag of a beautiful green staghorn. Did I overpay? Don't really know, but I like what I got!

Some may say you over payed... but honestly that's a pretty standard LFS price. I've seen 3.5" frags go for 60-80 depending on the coloration and 2" staghorns I've often seen for 40-50. This isn't to say you couldn't find a better deal... just saying that is quite standard.

Na you did over pay. I figured it would be acros. They usually come with a nice price tag. I spent $140 for my Achillies Tang. To each his own right?

If you like them, they are not too expensive.

Heh, that's a great philosophy to have in this hobby. Maybe I'll make that my signature...
