I would go with the 8 although it will be a little tight. That will allow you to use some high PAR lamps and still get a nice look.

Is there any place I can see a GE 6500K bulb compared to a ATI Pro Color?

Has anyone tried running 2 different size of bulbs on 1 ballast? I'm thinking of running one 48" and one 36". Would that be bad for the ballast or bulbs?

You could likely do it with an Ice Cap or mixing 24 and 39 watt lamps on the ballasts that are desinged to run 24 or 39 watt lamps.

How would these bulbs in a Constellation?

3 Aqua Blue+
2 Midday
2 PowerChrome Pure Act

Should like fine, slightly more blue than a 14K halide.

are the ice cap reflectors that much better than the sunlight's?
I can get the sunlight retro's at cost so it will save a ton of money for me and using the GIESEMANN bulbs too

Yes but unless you are raising SPS in a tank over 20" tall the Teks will be fine.

Sorry for the blisters. We do count on you a lot.
Was the yes to use four or was the yes to it is overkill? Tank is 14.5 inches front to back. Thanks again!

4 will be fine on that tank. I'd run
Front
Blue Plus
ATI Actinic
UVL Aquasun
Blue Plus

Hope your fingers are healing

I didn't ask my question right, what bulb combination do you suggest for an 8 lamp fixture?

Front
Blue Plus
Super Actinic
ATI Pro Color
Aquablue
GE
Blus Plus
Super Actinic
Blue Plus

Don't know of any side by side pics. The GE lamp looks slightly off white while the Pro Color has an obvious reddish tint to it. The GE looks yellow/green in the tank and the Procolor looks red.

thanks Grim and I know I keep asking about this bulb... but only because I am already running GE 6500k and GE 3000k bulbs and just want to know what the difference would be taking out the 3000ks and adding in the Pro Colors???

T5's only in 400 gal tank

I am still in the planning stage for a 400 gal tank, 84 inch length, 36 inch width and 30 inch depth. The tank will include sps and anemones.

My current 265 gal tank has 400 watt metal halides.

I plan to build a lighting fixture for the new tank and retrofit it with T5's only.

What number and configuration of bulbs do you recommend, and which brands/vendors?

Thanks

The Pro Color is a little less harsh.

If you plan on doing much with SPS and clams I would run 2 of the 8 lamp 39 watt Ice Cap retros with the lamps side by side to cover the length of the tank.

has anyone ever done PAR readings on T5 NO bulbs? They probably are useless for reef tanks, but just out of curiousity......

thinking of a 180 dominated by sps 48"x30"x30

would an 8 bulb tek 2 unit be enough?
Thinking i wouldn't do T5 actinics, maybe instead 1-2VHo actinics and 8 of the higher PAR T5 bulbs

Can it be done?

You would want an 8 lamp Ice Cap system for that tall of a tank with SPS.

400 gal 84Lx36Wx30D SPS

Mr. Reefer/Reaper:

Please amplify on your response.

Are you recommending an 8-lamp Ice Cap system to me?

Joe

No I am recomending 2 8 lamp Ice Cap systems. 39 watt lamps (36") Lace side by side to cover the length of the tank so you will have 8 rows of lamps.

Does anyone have a picture of what the Korallen-Zucht T5 Reds look like by themselves?

I have 3 250 watt 20k helios bulbs. I have 4 39 watt T5s for suplementation and was wondering if throwing 2 of these red bulbs would be good.

Has anyone used these? Ive tried to search for the info, but couldnt find much...

Powermodule is great but unless you are doing nothing but SPS it would be overkill on a 55

Could i keep one or two SPS frag in the near future with the TEK fixture? I really dont have interest in keeping SPS but just checking to see if possible. I would love a clam or two.

Hi Grim

I have a 40h..about 20" high 36" long, 12" wide. I was wondering if a 4 lamp Nova Extreme would work for some SPS up near the middle to top of tank?

Thanks
Mike
