Home Project: My Lil' ol Nano

As many of you know, I have been trying to get my aquarium up and running, for a while now (2 years...what can I say, I've been a little busy at work!).

Well, it's finally in place, and almost ready to grow! I'm just working on a few minor things.

But before I start telling and showing you what my "Lil' ol Nano" looks like now... let me take you back....WAY BACK.

A long, long time ago, in a small condo in South Florida, a man had a dream.

Aquarium:

128" x 42" x 32" polished Diamante Glass
744 gallons
Euro-braced with external overflow
Built by Exotic Aquarium - Miami

Sump/Reservoir:

60" x 24" x 36" polished glass
224 gallons

Stand:

3-inch I-beam steel stand 32" tall
Devoe Coatings 2-part alaphatic Black Epoxy
Self-leveling feet
3/4" Marine Plywood
3/4" Styrofoam
Built by Green Thumb/SunCoast Trailers - Coral Springs, FL

Lightbox:

High polished aluminum and diamond-plate
Powder-coated light rail

Lamps:

Six 400watt metal-halides (EVC or Hamiltons)
12 48" VHOs actinics URI

Lamp Drivers:

Four 430 Ice Caps
Six M59 Ballasts

Piping and PVC:

Schedule 80
Clear Harvel pipe
Spears fittings

Water Pumps (to start with):

One Sequence 5800
One Sequence 5800 Closed Loop
One Iwaki 100 for chiller
One Iwaki 100 for protein skimmer
Two OceanMotions 4-way

Timers:

Seven Intermatic timers
Four for VHOs
Three for metal halides

Chiller:

Custom-built one-ton UMI Heat-exchanger
One-ton Trane Split unit

Skimmer:

48-inch Dual-Becket Skimmer
Custom-built by Dave at Trigger Systems

Calcium Reactor:

Something custom-built I'm currently working on.

Refugium:

For Chaeto
48" x 24" x 12"
59 gallons

Some things may change. I'm still working out some kinks.

The following thread, has been a long time coming. I couldn't have possibly done it without the help of some very, special people:

First I want to thank Loredana for the long, long nights, and very early mornings of noise pollution (sorry for all the tongue lashings... but you know I like everything to be perfect!), Joe and Bonnie, John, and Tommy at Green Thumb, Bob and Karen, Lance, Ray, Carl and Eric, Mike and Cup, Charlie, Joe "NYVP," and last, but most certainly not least, David.

Myself and my friend Michael, in the filtration room, priming the room for the Epoxy paint.

Here’s the little ol’ stand for the little ol’ Nano!

When you get a chance, check out my close friend, Joe's, aquarium. http://www.oceansmotions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=860

We'll be posting some more pics over the next few days.

Great looking tank. I want to see more, hook up some more pictures please.

I think that large square panel behind your tank is the base for mine... My tank is being built by exotic aquariums right now as well. Please PM me and let me know what you think about the quality of their product. I can't wait to get my tank from them, I have heard nothing but good things.

I currently have a stock 200 but if and when I upgrade again I would not consider anybody else except exotic. Many excellent recomendations and good results over the years, from many customers.

Very nice tank Jeff. Look forward to the completed tank. Set up. I saw the pictures in the link you posted above, and I have to say that is the cleanest set up I have seen in a long time. I mean, it is as if the laws of physics bent to prevent condensation and dust from happening on the equipment LOL...................

You guys will learn Jeff is an freak when it comes to perfection. Jeff is the type of guy that will cut out a 12 foot section of 3" sch 80 pvc with fittings ( at $100 value )because he can make a bend 1/4" closer.
The tank has been in for a couple of months while he slowly builds his nuclear reactor type plumbing. We will all be amazed and learn a lot when we see it.
As jeff likes to say it will either be "EVIL" or "SICK"
