If you get a chance to get ahold of the Veron "corals of the world" series. You will see some bizarre Hydno's in there.
edit: here's some coral trivia. If you look at that pic up there(sweet BTW) at the rightmost long branch, you can see a raised bump in the center of some of the polyps. That is called a "hydnophore" and hence the name.

Look here: http://www2.aims.gov.au/coralsearch/coralid_search.php
Scroll down to "Hydnophora" under the Genus category, or press Ctrl+F and type in Hydnophora. You will find that they have 6 listed, but there might be more. Hydnophora bonsai Hydnophora exesa Hydnophora grandis Hydnophora microconos Hydnophora pilosa Hydnophora rigida

One of my favorite stony corals, also one of the roughest on anything near it!
Sweeper tentacles of doom indeed! There are some really neat encrusting varieties I've seen pictures of too in addition to the branching varieties. |

i just didnt feel like typing out messenterial filaments, as most dont know what they are, however people do know what sweepers are. basically the same thing, where i was coming from at least.. this one was mid attack and had hit the glass before it went on to the coral it was after.

A.T.T.R. wins that hydno is too cool.
My favorite thing was watching my Hydno smoke xenia when they crawled too far up the Hydno. They literally smoked those are all great pics of the difference between what M filaments look like vs sweepers

from what i read. the platings are rare. and that colormorph may be the only one in captivity ( it was a wild import. full colony)
so as of now there are 4 or 5 ( forget ho many frags i have out there) in other peoples tanks that i gave thm or traded them. working on propagating it a bit faster. i also have a branching blueish one. but i have never seens them send out any white threads farther then 1 MM and infact didnt know the were capable of it! i do know in a fight of them vs aiptasia hydnophora usualy wins

Im not sure what type this is but its the toughest coral I have ever owned. This coral was in a punctured bag that lived out of water for 3 hours in the back of a suv.
