OK nano skimmer

I don't normally run a skimmer on my Nano tank, but I am thinking about running small skimmer overnight a few days a week.
What is an OK unit that I can stick on the front of the tank at night and remove in the morning. Is the Current Nano skimmer or the Taam Rio worth the bother?? The Remora Nano is too expensive. Thanks. R

save your money for the remora, the current is a discrace of a product.

I've heard the current nano skimmer (assuming you mean the fission) is a piece of junk. There were a lot of threads about how bad this skimmer was a while back. Most retailers/e-tailers heavily discounted their remaining inventory just to move them.

The remora nano seems too expensive to me. For just a littl more $$ you could buy a regular remora.

I've not used the Rio Nano skimmer, but I've heard decent things about it. There was a thread on here at one point where the OP was tracking his/her progress with it. If this is the route you go, I know they're on sale here:

Thanks.
I have seen the very mixed reviews of the Current skimmer. The Remora is too expensive. The Rio is worth a look.
My 2 year old Nano is suddenly having a Cyanobacteria problem. I have tried all the usual things except a skimmer. I considered hanging a skimmer on the tank only at night a few days a week to see if it helps. R

Other things to try (if you haven't already) to rid the cyano is to add a cup full of sand from a tank w/o cyano, reduce phosphates (check RO/DI water - may be time to switch filters/membrane), make sure you're not overfeeding.

I'm dealing with cyano in my 10 gal nano right now. No fish, so I know overfeeding is not the issue. I did find that my RO membrane needs replacing, so I'm sure I'm pumping in some phosphates there.

I did try the whole no lights for 3 days thing. It helped for a day or two, but the cyano came back. I also added a few blue leg hermits, as I've read they are supposed to be good at helping to control cyano. But these are only band aids until I fix the route cause (for me it's the phosphates).

if your gonna get a skimmer you should run it all the time imo.

Also the current nano skimmer is junk, I will give you one for free if you want it, If you want to pay for the shipping which is probably still not worth it!!

If you have ever used another skimmer on the same tank that you used the current, you will know why most of us hate it.

The Cyano is actually greatly reduced.
I added Phosban and Chaeto to the system and it looks like I am winning the war. I thought a cheap skimmer dropped in a few hour a week couldn't do any harm. I am not really convinced that a skimmer belongs on a Nano in the first place. Water changes are so easy and necessary on a Nano, and that usually controls most problems. R
