Powder Brown Tang Spooked

I have a powder brown tang that was added to my tank last week. It eats like a champ and looks great. My question is, when the lights turn on it seems to get spooked out. It does it with both the antics and regular lights. I cut down some on the lighting do you think I should cut back more and just work my way back up to regular time? The lights are T-5's and the tank is acrylic..dont know if it is some sort of reflection thing? Anyone have any idea?

Tangs are shy at first. Within weeks he will warm up to you. My vlamingii was very shy for a long time. Now he follows me around like a puppydog.

Thank you mwood. So this seems like pretty normal behavior? It seems great other than that.

Thanks I will see how it does. It seems perfectly happy when the lights are off. Hopefully it will be able to adjust.

I have a true powder brown tang (gold rim) and he was shy at first. Now he recognizes me and the feeding cup and gets excited, only took about a week.

my powder brown is far from shy, he is actually a very angry fish. When he sees me he acts like he wants to kill me through the tank. Streaks back and forth in the tank biting and flaring his fins. Not sure why mine is so angry lol.

I've noticed a lot of powder (brown/blue) tangs to be very aggressive. But at first, they are shy, as most fish. Once he gets used to the tank, I am sure he will become more aggressive. My goldrim is already showing signs of aggression towards my bigger 6 bar angel, luckily he is no match for my emperor who is more then twice his size.

Hopefully it does not get to agressive. It is one of the biggest fish in the tank. The other fish seem to get along with it so far. If I add another tang do I need to get one with a differnt body shape?

It's likely going to get aggressive. Which powder brown is it? Whitecheek or whiteface?

Not really sure, how do you tell the difference between the two?

Just as it sounds. White face has white from the eye to the mouth. White cheek has a white spot under the eye. The white face also has orange on it's dorsal fin. The white cheek has only grey and yellow, no orange.

You'll have to share a pic when the fish comes out more.

Ill see if I can get a picture tonight. Still up to the same thing. When the lights come one it is over on the side of the tank swimming up and down. Perfectly normal when the lights are off. I don't get it!

I really dont understand why it is just when the lights are on. I can go right up to the tank and be next to it and it is fine with me? Hopefully it gets better but it sure seems stressed when they are on.

My best friend has the same issue with his, he found that when the lights are on it sees its own reflection in the glass , so it wants to fight with itself...... hope that helps.
