ScottKelly, your lucky to get away with having so many wrasses. I have always liked the pencil wrasse.

Here are some recent pics that I took. We are still adding corals and a few more fish.

This picture has all three fairy wrasses in it. I used to have a huge mystery wrasse but lost him in the tank transfer.

my latest addition

here is my latest aquisition. It was sold to me as a "blue lined fairy wrasse" yet I have not found any such wrasse in my searches. Closest I can find is a filament wrasse(?). Anyone else venture a guess of a common or better yet a latin name?

Thanks in advance, Scott

got zoanthids?

It's not a "fairy wrasse" with a dorsal fin like that. That dorsal just screams "flasher wrasse," probably Paracheilinus cyaneus.

P.S. -- Here is one of Dr. Tanaka's pictures of one. See what you think.

It worked for me just now but it was very slow loading. Anyway, here is the picture:

That's one of Dr. Tanaka's pictures of Paracheilinus cyaneus.

If we can catch our solar fairy wrasse, how many fairy wrasses do you think we can get away with in our 400 gallon? We plan on ordering a group and adding them all at the same time after QT.

Here is an ID that I need help with. It was sold to me as an unknown fairy wrasse. It seems that some people have similar ones in here that were identified as Lubbocks Fairy Wrasse but someone mentioned it looked like a Cirrhilabrus rubriventralis. Any idea?

Thanks wrasseguy2.

I suspect that the first specimen is Cirrhilabrus species from Kenya coast, yet to be named. It apparently is closely related to C. rubriventralis, joanallenae and morrisoni. Females of these spp. are similar looking, red with rows of white dots on side.

The 1st specimen has a prolongation from D-fin and it means that this is a male form, but still young. Its ventral fins will be longer and broader, and blackish red.

The third one is C. lubbocki, male; note the yellow back.

So it sounds like mine is a C. Rubriventralis or something very close to it. Is there a common name for it or should I just call it a Fairy Wrasse? I appreciate the help to ID this little fella.

Can anyone confirm if this is a male hooded fairy wrasse? I got what I think is two males but they look a little different. I was wondering if this one is a sub dominant male. I can't get a pic of the other male. He has not come out of hiding.
