Question Magnesium dosing amounts

I have learned that my Mag levels are low and this could be a cause for my low calcium as well. My fresh makeup water with IO at 1.025 gives me 950 - 1000 ppm Mag. By using this calculator
http://home.comcast.net/~jdieck1/chem_calc3.html
I find I need to add about 10 fl. oz of Kent Tech M to my 20 gallon water change to bring the levels up to 1250ppm.

To bring my tank up to 1250ppm I would need 32 oz. of Tech M. These sound like very large volumes of Magnesium!

What do people do with 200 gallon tanks? Are they buying gallons of this stuff? What am I missing?

It just takes a lot. Many of us use cheap MAG flake and sometimes also Epsom salts:

The flake makes a lot more sense. I see I can get a lot more for a lot less $$. I need to learn more about the epsom salt but I would think that would be an economical choice as well.

Thank you for the article! I love to read your articles though it sometimes takes me a little bit to fully comprehend them
