i was just wondering if anybody else has experienced any crazing on thier octopus skimmers, i had a nw 150 and after 1 week in my sump, i pulled it out (because someone gave me a euroreef skimmer )and dumped the cup and and put it up on the counter, i then noticed the whole inner cup was crazed.....no vinegar, no bleach, no chemicals nothing in use in the sump other than some carbon, so what gives, how did this happen??
the nearest i can figure is that they boxed it up too soon after manufacture and the vapors from the glueing process didnt have enough opportunity to escape..... anyone else seen this? |

I think you upset it by bringing a ER home.

Sign of the times look what we did to

that is almost sad. too bad, ASM had the right idea originally as bringing good performance for a lower price.

"Originally" is right. Then they got greedy and raised their prices to a level where it just doesn't make sense to buy ASM anymore.
I mean why buy an ASM at this point when you can get a EuroReef for about the same price? Dumb move raising the prices IMO. D. |

Yes now ATI is coming in with good prices. DID you see the new store in the area is going to try and carry them? The threadwheel on these seems to be the new thing. I am just waiting for the company that just makes impellars. think about making impellars for $1 each and selling them for $10.

Which new store would that be Brad? Of course I have not really had time to venture about all that much since I've been here 2 months ago.
The better/cheaper/easier thing would be making the needlewheel/threadwheel/pinwheel impeller heads for various pumps and sell them. Why reinventing the wheel for the actually impeller magnets? D. |

Why is it that sometimes my skimmer produces a nice brown shaving cream and moments later it is fizzing like a glass of alka-seltzer ?? Did something change with the surface tension of the water...feeding, testing, supplements, etc ?? I did recently do the gatevalve mod...maybe the pvc changed the water tension even though I did a vinegar bath.
I love this skimmer(NW 150 with gate valve mod)...it pulls out more in a day then what my old CPR bak pak did in two weeks. Also, when I first did the gate-valve mod I was disappointed as there were a lot of large bubble coming back from the skimmer return into my sump....without doing much it seems like the bubbles have really diminished. Anybody know why ?? |

One thing Im pleased about with mine is that once I set the water level it needs no further adjustments. Also when feeding or putting hand in tank it doesnt shut down like other skimmers do. Anyone else notice this?

Ok, Looks like i will have my father in law get the Pacific Coast PS-3000.
Anything i need to know about it without having to read through hundreds of posts Also do any of the vendors selling these do any mods? Think he wants the collection cup waste tube thing put on! |

It should come with it installed already. Before you go mod crazy on it try it as is. It should work just fine out of the box.
Edit: Sorry I thought you were refering to the RPS model. The drain mod should be very easy to do if you deem it's needed. |

The PC PS-3000 is the exact same skimmer as the NW200 from http://www.octopusskimmer.com/ just a different label is all.

Oh and I wouldn't bet too much on that 450G rating. Most manufacturers tend to exaggerate this figure a bit. More likely 250g or 300g

I am getting my rps1000 on saturday, will it be hard to set up? I am running it externally next to my 30g sump, i am giong to use a mag2. Is this ok?

It is? The NW200 says rated for 200 gallons and also is only $189?
The footprint seems to be a litle diffrent also. Do they use the same pump? Why would the 3000 be $50 more? |

That is one expensive label
So would the NW200 do the trick on a 210 with 55 gallon sump? Do you know when they will be in stock again? They use the same pump and build? |

Yep same thing as the Pacific Coast PS-PCPS-350 ($189.99)
https://www.customaquatic.com/custom...D=ps&offset=90 which is the same skimmer as a Coralife Super Skimmer 220 ($149.99). http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...188x003&ctt=60 I have no idea when they will have the NW200 available again though. You might want to email the store? |

Cool. Glad i posted and saved $50
Last question will the NW200 do the trick on his 210 with 55 gallon skimmer so i guess a total of 240 some odd gallons since the sump wont be filled all the way? I dont think it will be very heavily stocked. will have about 400 lbs of live rock. found like 3 diffrent sites that are selling this skimmer one is selling it for $375. All gave diffent ratings and all but customaquatics is on back order and theres says is drop shipped from manufacturer! |

I'm using a NW200 on a 180 with 30 gal sump and it's doing fine. A 210 should be ok but I don't think I would go much larger. I bought mine from Aquacave and had no problems but I know several others weren't as lucky.
